Supervision
Supervision that actually sees you and the clients you work with
You've searched for a supervisor before. You probably know the frustration: pages full of jargon, vague references to being "fully inclusive," no mention of fees until you've already sent three emails, and a supervision description so generic it could belong to anyone.
This page is my attempt to be everything I couldn't find when I was looking.
I'm Maritxu, a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and specialist in sex, relationships, and neurodivergence. I've been working in mental health for over a decade - first as a support worker in the community, now as a therapist and supervisor in private practice. I supervise because I know what it's like to need supervision that actually fits, and to not quite find it.
If you work with neurodivergent people, LGBTQIA+ clients, those navigating all sorts of relationship structures, trauma survivors, or anyone who sits outside the mainstream - I built this practice with you in mind.
What is supervision with me like?
It's collaborative, not hierarchical. I'm not here to tell you what you should have done differently or make you feel small for bringing something messy. Supervision with me is a genuine thinking space. Somewhere we can sit with the complexity of your caseload, your practice, your professional and personal self, without me performing authority at you.
My approach is:
Neuroaffirming - I use accurate, affirming language and understand the neurodiversity paradigm. (You won't hear me saying "neurodiverse people" - that one always gives me a twitch.)
LGBTQIA+ affirming - This isn't a niche add-on for me. It's woven into how I practise and how I supervise.
Trauma-informed and trauma-responsive - There's a difference, and I work with both.
Anti-oppressive - We pay attention to power, in the therapy room and in supervision itself.
Inclusive of all relationship structures - Monogamous, polyamorous, open, relationship anarchist, and everything in between.
My supervision model
I follow the Inskipp and Proctor model, which means we look at supervision across three functions:
Formative (your development as a practitioner), normative (ethical and professional standards), and restorative (your wellbeing, because you're a whole person).
I'm a pluralistic practitioner, meaning I don't believe one therapeutic model has all the answers. I'll meet you and your clients where you are.
I'm registered with BACP, COSRT, and NCPS, and I adhere to their codes of ethics.
Who I supervise
I work with:
Therapists at all stages of their career
Mental health support workers
Social workers
Whether you're newly qualified and building your caseload, or experienced and wanting a supervision space that can keep up with the complexity of your work, you're welcome here.
What we can cover
Supervision with me isn't limited to case management. We can also look at:
Your development as a practitioner
Working with specific presentations (see specialisms below)
Navigating private practice - the practical, the financial, the "why did nobody tell me this would be so much admin" of it all
If it becomes clear that you'd benefit from more focused support with the business side of practice, I may suggest working with a practice coach separately - but that's a conversation we'd have together, not something I'd just decide for you.
Specialisms
These are the areas I work with most, in both my therapy practice and supervision:
Neurodivergent clients - ADHD, autism, AuDHD, dyslexia, and the intersections between them
LGBTQIA+ clients - including trans and non-binary identities, sexual identity, at any life stage
Relationships - all orientations and structures, including ethically non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships
Anxiety - including generalised, agoraphobia, and OCD
Relational trauma - including domestic violence, sexual abuse, narcissistic abuse, and CPTSD
What makes me different?
I trained as a supervisor because I couldn't find what I needed when I was looking.
I'm queer, AuDHD, and Latina. I also live with chronic health conditions. I don't lead with that to tick boxes. I mention it because it shapes how I work, and because I know what it's like to sit across from someone who's theoretically affirming but clearly navigating your world from the outside. That gap matters, and I try not to be it.
I bring a contemporary, grounded perspective to supervision. One that takes the politics of identity, neurodivergence, and marginalisation seriously, without losing sight of the clinical. I bring my lived experience into the room where it's appropriate and useful. I'm not going to pretend I'm a blank slate, and I'm not going to make you feel like you're being evaluated rather than supported.
I also don't treat affirming practice as something to badge yourself with. It shows up in the language I use, the questions I ask, and the frameworks I bring (or don't bring).
